Course Focus – DISCOVERY PROGRAMME
Summer season is in full swing here at the Globe, and our students are busy getting to know the school, learning all they can in lessons, having fun in activities and making new friends in the process. Most of our junior students are following our DISCOVERY programme – it is designed for students aged 11-14 and 15-17 and is one of our most popular programmes. Here’s why:
OUTSTANDING TEACHING
The Globe teachers love their work and it shows – our academic department received special recognition from the British Council during the latest inspection which put us in the top 10% of all language schools in the UK for teaching quality.
Discovery programme offers 20 General English lessons per week. Speaking, listening and communicative activities form 75% of the lessons – it helps students build their confidence in speaking English and encourages them to build on the knowledge they already have. Lessons include authentic materials, role play, music, drama and project work.
An Italian Discovery student Marta: “I adored the fact that the classes were different from the way people usually think about them. I enjoyed speaking to the others, exchanging opinions, learning lots of new things, improving my pronunciation and playing games. I really enjoyed the project about creating a story and taking photos around the city.”
The lessons are generally course book based but supplemented greatly with many of our own original materials. Various topics such as life in Britain, traditions and festivals, survival English etc are incorporated into the course to suit the students’ interests and the time of year.
The timetable varies depending on the time of year – you can see a full sample summer programme here and academic year programme here.

FUN ACTIVITIES
In addition to the English lessons, we also offer an exciting activity programme for our Discovery students. Activities include something for everyone: sports, arts and crafts, cultural and educational visits, as well as regular party and bowling evenings. Our dedicated Junior Activities Coordinator Sarah says: “It’s exciting to see the students enjoy the activities I have planned for them– it is very important to me that they have a great time during their stay with us.” Here are just some of the activities our students have enjoyed in the past:
