St Nicolas College is a school in Paris, France which specialises in Business and STEM subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. A group of 17 students from the school spent 2 weeks at the Globe as part of our Future Careers programme, which consists of 15 hours of study, combining English lessons and Business English in the students’ specialist area.
The students also attend a series of work-related visits to local companies where they have the opportunity to see how UK businesses are run and take part in a Q&A session. Here are the local companies that students from St Nicolas College visited:
Tuesday 21st June: South Devon College and Moss Marina
The students were welcomed at South Devon College by Lawrence and went on a tour of the main campus. This was followed by a visit to their marine campus at Moss Marina on the river Dart. Andy Right gave the students a tour of the marine engineering and on a fantastic boat trip on the river Dart where the students had the chance to drive the boat themselves.
Wednesday 22nd June: Brightsea Press
The group were welcomed by John who gave an overview of the company, and took the students on a tour of the factory where they saw the new £1 million printing press in action and met other members of staff.
Thursday 23rd June: Den Brook wind farm.
The students received a warm welcome from Alan (the site manager), Sarah, and Alice (an engineer). Sarah gave the students an informative presentation on renewable energy and Alan gave a detailed talk on on the construction of the wind farm. The students enjoyed some refreshments before going on a tour of the site and seeing the base of one of the turbines.
Monday 27th June: The Music Mill
The students had the exciting opportunity to make a radio programme, interview each other and play music. They also recorded a song and played instruments in the studio.
Tuesday 28th June: Kents Cavern
Kents Cavern manager James welcomed the group and took them on a guided tour of the caves. He then gave an interesting presentation on the running of the business and answered the students’ questions.
Teacher Patricia Barna Borrel: The pupils enjoyed their programme. The students’ favourite activities were theFleet Air Arm exhibition and the Music Mill. There is a big variety in activities which are well organised. The team is nice and professional
