New Reception Manager at the Globe

Laura Parmisciano

The Globe English Centre is starting this week with the brilliant news of Laura Parmisciano being offered a permanent position as the Globe’s new Reception Manager. Laura is already a familiar face to our more recent and current students but if you have yet to pop in and have a chat with her – now is the time!

To mark this wonderful news, we sat down with Laura for a quick chat about the job, her homeland (Italy) and the Beatles!

Q: You’re from Italy. What attracted you to the UK and Exeter in particular? Has the area fulfilled your expectations?

A: Since I was little I’ve lived and breathed Beatles songs and English books and always wanted to live abroad. After a holiday in the South West of England I just fell in love with Exeter and the Devon countryside for the friendliness of people and the relaxed pace of life and decided that this was going to be “my place”.

Q: How did you decide to apply to work at an English language school? Did your education and previous experiences have any influence on that?

A: Foreign languages and cultural diversity have always been my passion and working with international students at the Globe offers a unique occasion to work in a multicultural environment, especially in a place like Devon which is not as diverse as the rest of the country. I’ve also specialised in cross-cultural communication and worked for 3 years as a teacher of Italian as a foreign language and I feel that my background has been helping me in my current role to understand foreign students’ needs better.

Q: What does your role at the Globe entail?

A: My main role is welcoming students and helping them with a wide range of issues connected with their welfare during their stay. I’m also responsible for organising work experience placements in local companies for individual students and groups. I really enjoy the variety of my role and the fact that I can interact with students on a daily basis and getting to know them.

If you have any questions while you are studying at the Globe or simply fancy a chat, please come and say hello to Laura at the Reception desk. See you soon!
